FAQs

Q: Can I use tap water to make Japanese tea?
A: Filtered or soft water is recommended for the best taste. Hard water can make the tea taste dull.

Q: What's the best way to store Japanese tea?
A: Keep it in an airtight container, away from light, heat, and moisture. Refrigerator is recommended.

Q: Can I reuse tea leaves?
A: Yes! Japanese green tea loose leaf can be steeped multiple times (mostly up to 3), adjusting the time and temperature. Check our full guide for details.

Q: What's the difference between Sencha and Kukicha?
A: Sencha is made from the leaves of the tea plant, while Kukicha (also called Karigane) is made from the stems and twigs. Kukicha has a lighter body, mellow sweetness, and lower caffeine, making it a great choice for evenings.

Q: Is Hojicha caffeine-free?
A: No, but it's much lower in caffeine than other Japanese green teas. The high-heat roasting process reduces caffeine significantly, which is why hojicha is often enjoyed in the afternoon or evening.

Q: Can I cold brew any Japanese tea?
A: Yes. Sencha, Kukicha, and Hojicha all work beautifully as cold brew. Cold water brings out natural sweetness and umami while keeping bitterness away.
